Artist Statement
& Biography

I was born in Barcelona in 1986, raised between the sun-bleached walls of the Gothic Quarter and the electric hum of my father's electronics workshop. From an early age, I understood that beauty lives in the tension between the organic and the constructed — a philosophy that has guided every brushstroke and every line of generative code I have ever produced.

My formal training began at the Escola Massana Centre d'Art i Disseny, where I studied fine arts with a focus on oil painting and printmaking. It was during my postgraduate residency at the Rijksakademie van beeldende kunsten in Amsterdam that I first encountered computational art, and the collision of those two worlds — the tactile and the algorithmic — became the defining axis of my practice.

"Every canvas is a system. Every system is a canvas. I am simply the interpreter standing between the two."

— Elena Vasquez, Artforum Interview, 2022

Over the past fourteen years, my work has been exhibited across Europe, North America, and Southeast Asia. I have completed major public commissions for institutions including the Centre Pompidou, the Serpentine Gallery, and the Singapore Art Museum. My practice spans large-format oil paintings, digital prints, interactive installations, and generative NFT series — each body of work interrogating how human perception adapts to increasingly mediated environments.

I currently live and work between Barcelona and Berlin, maintaining studios in both cities. I accept a limited number of private commissions each year and am available for institutional collaborations, artist talks, and residency programs.

## Creative Philosophy

My work operates as a sustained inquiry into the nature of perception itself. I am interested in the moment when a viewer's eye cannot determine whether a mark was made by a human hand or a machine process — and what that uncertainty reveals about consciousness, authorship, and beauty.

## Medium & Process

I begin each series with algorithmic sketches — custom scripts that generate compositional structures based on mathematical systems. These digital blueprints are then translated into physical paintings using oil on linen, often at monumental scale. The final works exist simultaneously as unique physical objects and as digital editions.
